Architects of Peace
When photographer Michael Collopy heard Children’s Defense Fund president Marian Wright Edelman speak at a State of the World Forum, he was inspired by her call to “stand for values of caring and community and justice.” Michael answered Edelman’s plea by documenting the work of those who have dedicated their lives to the struggle for peace and justice. His new book, Architects of Peace: Visions of Hope in Words and Images, features portraits of and essays by Nelson Mandela, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sister Prejean and Carlos Santana. “I’ve ended up with a group of people I never could have imagined,” Collopy says. “I hope the diversity of viewpoints I’ve included shows how differences could be united through the central goal of peace.”
